Three youngsters unite to stop a restaurant chain from building on a nesting ground for endangered owls in this well-meaning but flimsy family adventure. Their subsequent attempts at sabotage are heavy with moral and ecological messages, as they predictably run rings around the crudely drawn adults with their far-fetched stunts. Still, klutzy local cop Luke Wilson and equally dumb site foreman Tim Blake Nelson seem to enjoy their cartoonish humiliation, playing up to the film's audience-pleasing concept of kid superiority, and adding to the gentle humour. Likeable performances from the teens (including Logan Lerman from Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief) keep events watchable during the frequent lulls in action, though their charm cannot rescue the contrived and unexciting finale.
