"The legend. The battle. The first hero."

  • Director: Roland Emmerich
  • Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Science Fiction
  • Studio: Centropolis Entertainment
  • Subtitled | Widescreen | Duration: 125 Mins

Nothing much has changed when it comes to prehistoric adventures since One Million Years BC featured Raquel Welch running around in a fur-skinned bikini in 1966. The same lovelorn cavemen fight the same primitive predators with the same historical inaccuracy. This messy melange of Apocalypto and TV series Primeval from Day after Tomorrow director Roland Emmerich sees brave young hunter Steven Strait embark on a quest to rescue blue-eyed Camilla Belle when she's taken to a faraway land by mysterious invaders. Constructed around mindless spectacle, chintzy computerised creature effects and sweeping Stargate-style Egyptian vistas, this epic nonsense isn't silly enough to even be entertaining. Bland where it should be imaginatively bold, sluggish when it should soar with thrilling excitement, this leaden leviathan feels like a mammoth stampede in slow motion. At least, the dimwitted dialogue is spoken in perfect English.
