A small island off Manhattan is the setting for this low-key comedy drama starring Andy Garcia as wannabe actor Vince Rizzo. He keeps his aspirations a secret from his family, which is easily done as the Rizzos communicate mostly at the top of their voices. When Vince brings home ex-convict Tony (Steven Strait) it sparks more quarrels, but there's added tension as Vince hides the fact that Tony is his son. It's a story of secrets and strengthening family ties from writer/director Raymond De Felitta, who lets the comedy spring naturally from the friction between characters and, in particular, a burgeoning love affair between Tony and Vince's wife (a wonderfully mouthy Julianna Margulies). It's occasionally contrived, but the underlying affection between the Rizzos (including a wickedly funny Ezra Miller and Garcia's real-life daughter Dominik García-Lorido) keeps the film grounded. And Garcia's gift for comedy is a true revelation.

The Rizzos, a family who doesn't share their habits, aspirations, and careers with one another, find their delicate web of lies disturbed by the arrival of a young ex-con brought home by Vince, the patriarch of the family, who is a corrections officer in real life, and a hopeful actor in private.
