This ambitious but gloomy existential thriller never really shakes off its stage origins (Kenneth Pressman adapted his own play Insider's Price) despite an impressive cast. Forest Whitaker plays a world-weary assassin who has an attack of conscience when he is hired to kill Sherilyn Fenn and her Aids-afflicted child. The performances, including cameos from Seymour Cassel, Sharon Stone and James Belushi, are impressively low-key, but it's just a little too talky and static for its own good.

A veteran hitman, Dekker is ready to call it quits and leave the profession. His final job, however, proves to be trickier than expected when a sadistic man recruits the assassin to kill his wife, Jain, and their baby, but he can’t bring himself to do the job, complicating all of their lives.
