After having casual sex in the toilet of a remote motorway service station, strangers Leonardo Sbaraglia and Maria Valverde get lost in the neighbouring woods and start dodging unknown snipers lurking in the dense mountain forest. The set-up is simple and the characterisation minimal, but director Gonzalo López-Gallego never lets the edge-of-the-seat suspense slack off in his Spanish sleeper hit, as the duo's continuing struggle to survive the backwoods brutality turns into harrowing social comment. However, once the viciously precise movie shifts focus from the terrified and bewildered protagonists to their would-be assassins, some of the sweat-inducing tension evaporates as the debts owed to The Most Dangerous Game and Them come to the foreground. But when the reason for the title becomes apparent and the dialogue turns increasingly chilling in its childishness, the final punch to the gut is highly effective.
