Debut director (and co-writer) Brandon Camp squeezes a few laughs and a hint of romance from this otherwise serious and sorrowful drama. Bestselling self-help author Burke Ryan (Aaron Eckhart) travels around America giving seminars to those coping with grief. But meeting quirky florist Eloise (Jennifer Aniston) reveals some telling truths: while Burke instructs others on how to overcome loss, he has yet to deal with his own unresolved pain from the death of his wife three years earlier. Aniston and Eckhart struggle somewhat as they try to plumb deep emotional waters, and are further hampered by a flimsy plot. Although it's strikingly shot in and around Seattle and has a strong supporting cast that includes Martin Sheen as Burke's father-in-law, this is only a lightly effective story about moving through grief to new love, and is less a romance and more a lecture on self-help psychology.
